You later mentioned this is on hda3. The problem with a regualar boot loader
is that the filesystem is compressed ramdisk on a DOS partition, so you must 
get Grub to run and turn over everything to initrd to run properly. I haven't 
tried this myself, as UML does the same thing w/o needing to reboot the 
box. 

What Jeff was saying is that: "I am trying to boot Bering from Grub on a 
hardisk" doesn't give us _any_ idea what you have done. All we can 
do is guess and assume what you may or may not have tried. To get
better help, the grub "/boot/menu..1st" and any changes you've made to
the Bering image would be most useful to providing a helpful response.
