Library dependencies should be.  The error you quoted looks like
the same as this one:

You might want to grab a copy of strace.lrp and trace the
statically compiled version, e.g. "strace -f ./talk root".
My guess is that the resolver error occurs when it goes
looking for libnss_dns.so or (maybe more likely) nsswitch.conf.
If the latter, you might want to try copying over nsswitch.conf
from the working debian system and see if that helps.
