Sorry for the late reply, but I hope the information will be useful
none-the-less.  Once I modified the HTML to include netmon and the Java
applet, I added the TCP port (Martin Hejl mentioned this as well) to the
shorewall rules file, and restarted shorewall, I assume the same would work
for you.

ACCEPT    loc    fw    tcp 1023

svi shorewall stop
svi shorewall start

walla...
