Hi,

two of my sons, one at home with his machine behind a Dachstein firewall, the other on the other side of the firewall, somewhere on the net, want to play a role playing game over the internet.

I've run the firewall for some time, but am still a newbie in many respects.

I'm looking for a way to let them play, while keeping up the firewall, but am not at all sure how to do it.

Any suggestions would be most welcome and if I need to provide more specifics, please let me know. At this point I'm not sure what might or might not be relevant :-(

The solutions to this problem are *extremely* game specific, usually involving forwarding some ports to the hosts the game client runs on, sometimes modifying settings in the game client itself, sometimes involving opening ports, and providing servers for, ancillary servies (like auth). Some require none of this and just work without any special hoo-hah.

So ... tell us the game in question and, if it is convenient, the URL for the site where you get the software (if it is downloadable) or for its online support (if it is a commercial game). If your son has tried it and found it not to work, the details of that failure could also help.

You might get an answer if you simply Google the game's name plus "firewall" and/or "NAT".
