I think you want to be notified, audibly, once the entire system has booted up, shorewall is loaded, etc, etc.

Me too.

I tucked in a call to my script in /etc/init.d/cron, just because it's nearly the last thing to boot up ('S89').

Quick & dirty hack that worked for me.
