I was meaning with the cable to the ISP disconnected :-) Just some bogus
config to see if the eth0 interface can be initialized.
Are you sure your provider doesn't expect a hostname to be sended? Mine
does and I have something like this in my /etc/network/interfaces:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
hostname ccxxxxx-x
