Good, so you are used to Linux.

No, LEAF is a self contained LINUX distro which runs in memory and 
provides packages for a number of functions.

There is no installation per se. The cd image is a fully functioning 
router/firewall, all it takes is some write enabled media (for example a 
floppy) to store the configuration changes. Ah yes, it takes some 
configuration too :-)
