Hi Erich, >> Pascal Dornier from PC Engines says he will prepare some DOS sample code >> - if someone wants to try to implement a watchdog for ALIX. > > I doubt this would help much, it might be better to port back the 2.6 code. Indeed it would, if somebody were willing to port the driver.
But in all honesty, I don't see the need (which is why I won't volunteer for the job) - I don't recall the last time that a leaf box locked up hard with the setups I'm using (usually a typical internet gateway with firewall, dns, wlan access and openvpn). The only times I've had issues so far is with access points needing a reboot because clients could no longer connect - but in those instances the box itself was still working fine, so having a watchdog would not have helped. In short - to me, having a watchdog driver would be nice, but it would not have helped me in the last 2 or so years, so it's hard for me to justify spending time on porting a driver. But of course, if somebody writes/ports a driver, I'll gladly use it, if it's solid (nothing worse than a buggy watchdog driver that causes unneeded reboots).
