Importing list tables such as customers, vendors and products is fairly straightforward.  But, importing transactions such as sales invoices and purchase orders (for someone like me who hasn't much accounting background) seems daunting.

Into which tables did you import them?
ALL transactions or just specific types?
Going back how far?  (eg, one year, or to the beginning of the current year.......)

Well, there are two options. If you load only list data, then loading orders should be fine (no financial impact).

Just to clarify.......... Loading both list data such as products, customers and vendors, along with closed sales invoices and purchase orders, will NOT affect accounting data?

If so, which tables would sales invoices and purchase orders be loaded into?  AR and INVOICES tables?

If you only load orders which have actually been shipped and paid, consulting an order in the new system would work just as well as consulting an invoice in the old system.

By consulting, do you mean to search for and view invoices and purchase orders which have already been closed?  Being able to view them is actually crucial to some merchants because customers often contact the merchant asking for a re-order on a product which they can only describe cursorily.  The merchant then must search invoices to find the product they are referring to.



The other option (which I have actually seen being used in practice) is that the merchant doesn't migrate anything but the unpaid invoices and some balance information. If they keep Quickbooks for one more year, they'll never look back at the old data after that and save themselves a costly migration. Because: after a while, the "last invoice" is in the new ERP instead of the old one.

How are unpaid invoices and balance information loaded?  Which tables in LedgerSMB?
