Vanilla and Strawberry Perl come with both gmake and dmake, I think. If Module::Install installed, try using gmake instead of make with LedgerSMB (and if that fails, try dmake). I would recommend against running "make install" on LedgerSMB itself because this will copy everything into the LIBPERL directory and complicate support in the future.
