Will keep it brief since I expect many of you will have had access to TV pictures. Bottom line- it was a great result but not a great performance by any stretch of the imagination. Early kick off made for a very early start from me,leaving home before 8am and getting to Spoons at Leeds station for 9.40am. Howson was fit and so it was business as usual, with Kilkenny again missing out. We exchanged free kicks at the edge of the box early doors - Max blasted ours well over, much to Snoddys disgust, theirs straight into the wall which stood firm. Then Bannan had a good run and a long range shot that Camp saved easily but Forest were starting to take control and we were struggling to get the ball. Prem referee Halsey had given a number of poor decisions against us - one throw in to them when Snoddy was tackled was especially strange. They were guilty of time wasting from the start and were well up for the rough stuff,a couple of heavy obstructions and an elbow come to mind, but they also played some decent stuff and it was no surprise when they carved us open down our right and the ball came to their striker, who with Kasper totally out of his goal managed to shoot straight at the on-rushing Bromby - a great challenge but it should have been a goal. If that was not the defining moment of the match what happened next really was - the ball was cleared and McCartney chased out after it only to be cut down by a two footed reckless dive by the Forest player. Grayson and the Leeds bench went mad and a melee involving a number of players from both sides ensued. At the end of it all Halsey gave a straight red and they were down to 10. Having seen it since I reckon it was a very rash challenge - one of those worse than a yellow but maybe a harsh red -doubt they will win their appeal. We stuttered on to half time never making the extra man count and Kasper having to save well a couple of times. Second half did not start much better until a sublime pass from Snoddy sent Lichaj down the wing and his cross was brilliantly controlled by Howson who buried it with his second touch. A few minutes later and we thought it was game over when we scored from a corner - yes we scored from a corner ! Bannan hit it deep and Bromby got up well at the far post and headed against the post, the ball coming back to Becchio who nodded home from a yard out. The crowd then made sport out of the odious Billy Davies with "job done and you f*cked it up" and "Davies' a **** ,his wifes a slag" - he revelled in the attention, waving and bowing - I really detest the little runt. Then as per normal we let them back in it - Snoddy had sent a curler just wide - at least it was a touch of class rather than a mistake, but their sub left Bannan for dead and showed Snoddy how to curl one getting it exactly right - the old postage stamp in the corner of the net.We never really looked like blowing it and then once again I showed how much I know about football - take Max off I kept saying , come on Grayson take Max off, it is not his day, he is not on his game, come on Grayson. Then a ball into the edge of the box found Max who took it down and volleyed it home with real style. Grayson then did make a sub with Livermore coming on and looking composed and good, he made a great turn inside the box , and his shot was parried by Camp straight to Bechio ,who should have scored but Camp put in a great block and it rebounded to Max who prodded it home - 4 1 and we all went home happy even if the scoreline did flatter us and we did wonder if we would have beaten them if they had had 11 men throughout. (mind you they were lucky in the end to only have the one red card) Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman-new.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected]
