Far too easy Ian.
He is strange. Certainly has pronounced views. Acts on them. Keeps his own
council. Has experience. I tend to think that he has the makings of a
genius. However he may well be a flawed one. In fact hopelessly flawed.
But...
He had bought in some good players. He has got rid of some bad ones.
Believes in youth. Sees the differences between individual, youth and team
training. Sees the differing roles in professional management. And he
manages and uses money.
The bottom line? Well there isn't one. I also think that he was right in
not giving Redfearn the job. He has a far more important one right now & I
am no way convinced that he is the man for the 1st team. But we are in the
position that by either promoting Redfearn or not promoting him we can lose
him. The Peter principle-- promote a guy till he gets to the point that he
can't function.
We may get lucky-- Redfearn fits & we get a good academy boss. Shades of
Guardiola? Or the famous Liverpool system of the 70's? Who knows.
When I proposed to my wife I told her 'I don't promise you a happy life---
but you'll never be bored'. Maybe that's why I like Cellino. He sees things
differently & sticks to his guns
