It won't yet be ‘all for nought’ if we go down today. We would still
have the parachute payments to give us a big advantage in the 2022/3
Championship season, which we wouldn't have had if we had never gone up.
We'd still have to come back up inside a two seasons max, but surely if
clubs like Norwich, Fulham and Bournemouth can do it we can. Can't we?

I know what you’re saying Dave, but I don’t agree that today will decide
how we remember Bielsa. It will decide whether it was ‘all for nought’.
The first 3 years brought us both brilliant football, and a sense of
pride in the way it was achieved: he showed that it was still possible
to do things the right way on and off the field. To me there was an
element of grace to it - not a word often associated with Leeds.
JM doesn’t bring that and whatever the results today (and it is a 38
game season) it is unfair to expect that from him. Staying up being the
natural / default desire of any team in our position, but without
massive change it will likely mean we will be in for another season like
this one…without our best players. Going down might give us a better
season to watch as a supporter.
To be honest though, what I’ll miss if we do go down is the joy not the
‘status’, and that has gone either way.

Well today is D day for Bielsa and his legacy - does he go down in
history as the man who got us back on track or just as a 3 season oasis
in a sea of mediocrity?I will always admire and respect him and he will
go down as my favourite ever manager ( 31 and counting) both for what he
did on the pitch and his persona and behaviour off it ( like Chile fans
I count myself as a Bielsa 'widow') . However relegation today makes his
football achievements as just a footnote.
There is no point debating if he would have kept us up although one of
my concerns for today is the fact that Marsch only has one result that
was unexpected- a victory at wolves away- and I am not sure how much
credit he actually deserves for that one?Wins over Norwich and Watford
are to be expected, as are defeats v Man city, Chelsea and Arsenal, so
it is whether the draws v Southampton, Palace and Brighton are good
points or should and would have been better under Bielsa - but as I say
a pointless debate. All that counts now is what happens today - if we
stay up I will give Jesse the credit and hope he goes on to better
things with us, and I will also thank him for protecting Bielsa's legacy
, if we go down then the blame is to be spread around .
I want us to stay up but as my wife keeps saying " you enjoyed the
championship, you will win more, and you will be going to games
whatever so it makes little difference " - all true , but fuck me,
relegation will hurt
Dave
