Well this was very similar to QPR but seemed more fun, whether that was due to a full house making noise, the sunshine, the fact that Bristol looked a better team than QPR, the fact that having let them back in we still won, I'm not sure but it was a good afternoon Somehow though we need to get a goal that gives us a 2 goal cushion so we can all relax. The team was odd when the news came through we thought it meant that Ampadu was moving into centre half, Struik at left back and Byram right back. We were surprised therefore to see Archie Gray at right back. A real gamble we thought and expecting a lot from such a young lad. Needless to say he stepped into the role with aplomb looking as if he had always played there and barely put a foot wrong. What a gem of a player. Bristol were no mugs , and had some possession without ever threatening. Gradually we took control and began to create chances, the best of which fell to Georginio who somehow skied a cross from Summerville over the bar from a yard out. If , on a scale of 10 , when that is how many times out of 10 you should score, the miss by the hull player was a 10, Georginio was a 9.9 it was that bad and , despite DFs lengthy explanation of why he was at 9 , questions were bring asked, a goalscorer puts that in with their eyes shut. Thankfully it was soon forgotten as a shot by Ampadu was parried out towards a defender who dithered long enough for a combination of Kamara and Georginio to rob him of the ball, then whilst falling to the floor Georginio put in a great cross that went through Summerville and fell to James who fired home. Lets get another and put it to bed we all thought, but wild shots and near chances went begging. " at least we dont have to worry too much about defending corners any more " said my mate on 35 mins ( sorry Gak). Typical commentators curse as with the last kick of the half we conceded a corner and the bloke headed home under very little pressure. Second half followed the same pattern with us well on top. Then came the goal that Farke will say vindicates his selection, Piroe again at 10, took a pass from Kamara on the edge of the box and rolled it through a defender's legs and into the net, the keeper was wrong footted and could only dive after the ball as it went in, almost in slow motion. That, it turned out, was enough to win the game as Bristol never looked like scoring really , but we fluffed any number of chances of getting a 3rd. Summerville had most, a great shot was tipped onto the woodwork, another shot was blasted over and he failed by inches to get on the end of a lovely cross by Georginio. Bamford also messed up his chance of getting on the scoresheet as he was put through but hesitated instead of pulling the trigger, match rustiness or lack of confidence who knows. This half we saw the game out without any major scares, and go into the break with 6 pts from 2 home games and in a play off spot. Only Southampton of the 9 teams played have looked as good ( better on the day) than us , and we should improve as the players gel more and we have Gnonto and Spence to come back into the side so things are looking good Leicester's form being the only worry, are we all fighting for second place? So a good day and things are fun again. Georginio really is a joy to watch at times with his skills and tricks and he plays with a joie de vivre seldom seen in the professional game Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org
