Largely agree with Nick - the extra crowd and noise increased my enjoyment on Saturday and i would not begrudge the extra cost to me too much if it kept us up. BUT I think what we may be missing is the effect on ST sales next year. Basically these are the only asset the club has left to borrow against - around £7m guaranteed income - based on £500 x 14,000. A lot of those people will be questioning whether to renew next year; The rubbish we've seen this year will not have helped The amount of night-games is a factor for some - i miss a lot of these due to need to take time-off work and impossibilty of getting home and it's getting more difficult to find someone to use my ticket. The reduced prices might be the deciding factor for some. If you aren't actually saving money with a ST and there is plenty of space every week - why bother. Over the years i've seen dozens of people say they aren't renewing but are still coming regularly - most are rarely seen thereafter - you just get out of the habit, find other things to do. If too many do this - the clubs ST income could plummet - which would have a drastic effect on summer buying power, borrowing etc. Ken's analysis of revenue in the programme on Saturday wasn't entirely honest either - he picked Sheff Wed as the normal home game - when reality is that there were 5000 more people there than normal that day Matt

I'm not particularly chuffed about the price cuts but I do have to say that if the crowds come in and make a few points difference and those few points keep us up, then that is worth £12 or £18 to me. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Lewis, KM (Kevin) Sent: 13 March 2007 10:36 To: Leeds List (E-mail) Subject: [LU] Attendance and Prices There has been a lot of talking about the prices etc. All I can say is that I bet Ken has done his homework. To my mind there are 4 factors here. There are the straightforward multiples of Price v No of attendees. There are the extra sales of pies, drinks etc, which they must be able to work out an average of how much a supporter spends on these. There is the cost of opening an extra stand eg east upper, extra refreshment bars etc, which must only be worthwhile if it is going to be a certain percentage full. Lastly there is human nature. I'm not standing up for him, but he may feel that these price-cuts are a good thing to do occasionally. I assume he is going to try to balance it against a) The feelings of season-ticket holders. He doesn't want to piss them off too much. Also there will be a law of diminishing returns on this. Many of those who take advantage of the cheaper games would be those who attend 5 or 6 games a season. Some will go to an extra match, others will just go to that one instead of another. I think the balance of 3-4 reduced price games a season is about right. It will piss off the ST holders, but not too much, and I agree that they should get something worthwhile out of it too. It will get extra people (=more atmosphere) at some matches which would not be well attended otherwise. They will sell more stuff in the ground too. There is also the likelihood that occasional visitors are more likely to buy shirts and stuff from the shop. Somebody who goes twice a season may well make a substantial purchase from the shop every time, whereas the season-ticket holder may only go in the shop 3-4 times a year. Dropping prices overall by a third would defnitely get more people through the gates, but I bet Ken or his people have worked out that it would also mean a drop in revenue overall.
