John, I pretty much agree with everything you say, except I have to point out that I haven't once said I thought Bates 'saved' us.
All I have ever said was a positive is that he doesn't put up with shit and therefore would stop us being ripped off by players, agents and other clubs when it comes to transfers. Which has been an open sore for me for some considerable time...
