first the goals for any who have not seen them http://www.youtube.com/mmace
(can even spot myself celebrating after Becks goal0
This really was the old "game of two halves" cliche. First half we played
probably the best football we have played all season. We were passing it around
well with lots of good movement on and off the ball. They were dreadful -
everyone was asking 2how the hell are this lot top ?" ** We created a few
chances both before and after the goal - Carole especially doing well but being
unlucky when he tried a long range chip having seen that the keeper was not in
his nets. It was all plain sailing - their biggest crowd in years all come to
see the not famous any more LUFC were silent and when we went in at half time
it was basically a question of how many will we win by ? Perhaps the players
had the same attitude, perhaps it was a change in attitude by their team who
had perhaps had stage fright first half, well whatever the reason we went to
sleep and totally fell apart second half. They began to assert some pressure
and were starting to be first to every ball. Then a
clearance fell to one of their players who probably hit it as well as he has
ever done and it rocketed into the back of the net giving Casper no chance. We
continued to coast a bit and it was no surprise that we conceded again this
time with Casper seeming to flap at a corner and not getting to the ball. It
did spur us on a bit and I was pleased to see that it was Wise and not Gus who
was in charge of brave substitutions - this time Constantine and Da Costa being
brought on - however on this occasion it did not work out for us and in the
dying minutes they took the ball into the corner to waste time (or so we
thought) Richardson and another player went over to half heartedly challenge
their player who nipped between the two of them and putting in a cross met by
an attacker who touched it into the net - our defence being caught napping.
Constantine had a couple of touches to suggest he will do OK for us - the
game passed Da Costa by and it makes you wonder why he was not given a run out
last week when we were 4 - 0 up rather than being brought on in an attempt to
salvage a point.
At the end the team still went into a huddle and the 3400 of us gave them a
good ovation, but obviously a few question will need to be answered now.
How much was down to Gus, is this just a blip, how will we re-act (at least
the next game is very quickly upon us and against one of the weaker teams.
Also having been almost impregnable at the back for much of the season we
have now conceded 5 goals in the last one and a half games - something to worry
about ? Should Huntington and or Parker be given a chance ?
Dave
** the correct answer of course is "because the b*st*rds took 15 points off
us" !!!!!
