Perhaps I didn't explain myself after getting caught up in the semantics. 1) The IRA are/were c#nts. 2) Al-Qaeda are c#nts. 3) Al-Qaeda are different from the other examples given here because they fly under the banner of religion, which means people born and bred in a different country on the other side of the planet want to blow up fellow citizens.
Northern Ireland was the disputed territory, it was the battlefield as far as the IRA were concerned. The IRA did not bomb the UK mainland to kill English people. They did not want to change the very way of life of people in England. Al-Qaeda do. To reiterate, IRA were c#nts and I had/have no sympathy with them at all, nor do I seek to make light of what they got up to. But their cause was NOT a religious cause, it was a territorial cause. They did not want to wipe all protestants off the face of the earth. Al-Qaeda do. That is all I was saying.
