Oh my...what is the world coming to when I agree with Rob Heath on a political topic (last bit aside)!? What is not possible now?
The whole War on Terror is a crock.? It is a construction designed to justify the concentration of power in the hands of the President of the US on this side of the Atlantic and the Prime Minister on that side.? It is also designed to justify massive transfer of power and wealth to corporate entities and out of the hands of those who have the least. Are there Islamic extremists who wish us ill out there?? Of course there are.? And there are many, many other problems -- much bigger problems -- facing society? Cripes, how many terrorist attacks have their been on British soil from September 11, 2001 to date?? How many IRA attacks were there in just about any similar six year period of time in the 70s or 80s? Your last bit, Rob, I disagree with.? Naturally, I don't agree that Israel is engaged in either a "genocide" or a "land grab" -- a better case could be made going the other direction.? But even if the US and UK were to throw Israel under the bus there would STILL be Islamic Extremists who would engage in terrorist acts.? The very things that this war on terror was built for are intimately intertwined with the very things they abhor about our society. What we have to do is not feel the need to impose our society and our values upon them.? When they reach a point where they understand that they are truly free to live their lives as they wish free of our impingement then it may change.? Not before than.? And certainly fighting a "War" on them will not help.
