Tim, I don't mind being a biking nerd, to be honest being a biker is all about freedom of choice, most people drive cars because it is a convenient mode of transport, easier than public transport, drier than walking etc. All bikers ride because they want to and not because they have too.
To be fair to us biking nerds we put a lot of faith onto the machines we ride, a modern supersport (600cc class) puts out around 130hp and has a contact patch on a 180 section rear tyre of approx 1 postage stamp, we have stability issues that you don't encounter in a car in that when you stop you fall over. In order to keep these high tuned highly complex machines working we have to look after them, there is no car equivalent of modern sportbikes unless you want to spend over 100 grand and even then the car is governed by traction control, brake weight distribution and a whole bunch of other electronic gadgets keeping the car on the road.
