That would depend upon the lane, if neither party knew the layout of the road I would expect the bike to win. The agility of the bike coupled with the riders ability to move around in the lane (can't cross the white line given that it could be illegal) to get a better line of vision through a bend and to the next obstacle gives them an abvantage (right hand bends being the most obvious), granted the car may have more contact with the surface and therefore greater stability in absorbing cornering forces but the front wheel driving/braking/steering (I presume that alfas are still front wheel drive) forces of the car though a tight bend offers a disadvantage as the wheels / suspension system are doing too many things at the same time, whereas the bike will brake later keep a higher constant speed through the bend, and the ability to lay the power down quicker through a more tractable engine and lighter chassis will give the bike a distinct advantage in building up speed quicker (simple science it is easier to move 4 x 150 cc pistons than 6 x 500cc pistons)
Where the car will be obviously better is when the limits of the rubber is reached, a car will flick out the back or under/over steer but it is recoverable whereas on the bike if the back steps out though wheel spin it is likely to result in a painful highside, similar consequences with the front. I have raced a BMW 330 around the track at Bruntingthorpe whilst on my bike, they both have similar top speeds but the bike won without question, the simple fact was that the initial acceleration was greater (0-62 3 secs) than the car (0-62 7.4 secs) and the acceleration between the bends was faster whilst they both offered similar results through the twisties on the back circuit. I may still have the datalogged files somewhere. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Leslie" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, November 08, 2007 12:06 PM Subject: Re: [LU] Bike nerds > OK ... then I'll take you on down a country lane when my cars vastly > superior cornering ability will leave you way behind.
