Great result and well deserved. Even better we are now 4th (even if only for a
short time) and only a couple of points off the top.
some fans, including on here have asked if the 'bubble has burst' or
something similar, forgetting that after a shocking second half at Carlisle we
bounced back with a victory at Bournemouth, and that the other 2 results
Hereford \ Bury were with a partial reserve team.
Anyway, on to today.
Howson after his fine display on Tuesday was kept in to partner Hughes in
midfield, the other 9 were as expected.
We started brightly and were well in control of the game with both Tres
(twice) and Howson coming close before a cross was handled in the area on the
half hour mark and Beckford blasted the penalty into the roof of the net. And
so after a good first half we went in 1 -0 up.
I had just taken my seat (standing place) for second half when the only good
move all game by them ended with a player free and in space on our right to get
the equaliser giving Casper no chance.
We wobbled a little bit but then got back to grips with the game despite them
trying to kick us off the park. Their blond lad should have seen red, as should
one of the defenders who got involved with a pushing match with Beckford ,
missed by the ref who catching the end of it decided to book both. When the
same player then got involved with Kandol in a similar fashion the ref decided
a talking to was enough - ie he bottled sending theirs off and booking Tres.
We pressed and pressed with Howson pulling the strings in his best
performance for us in the League.
A flowing move led to Howson passing to Kandol who laid the ball on to
Beckford who lashed it into the net 2 1 and game (almost over).
We continued to press and brought on both Kishishev , who looked class albeit
not fully match fit, and De Vries and had a few near chances to put it beyond
doubt.
They had us worried on one attack but the forward punched the ball into our
net (but was not booked for his deliberate handball) and the flag was up for
offside in any event.
All in all a reasonably comfortable if not exciting afternoon, though we do
need to get out of the habit of falling asleep when in front, with Howson
especially outstanding.
Onwards and upwards
Dave
