Michael,

I agree with Brownie, if you are going to bring loyalty into the equation
then it has to be a level playing field for the comparison, Wise was
seemingly on a one year rolling contract, whilst he was persuading the
players to stay loyal to him and the club the club didn't do the same by
him. I would have been happy to have seen him offered a longer contract
after we had decimated the 15 point dis-advantage similar to the extensions
offered to Beckford and Kandol.

If Bates can't offer a longer contract to his mate then you have to either
question bates' loyalty to Wise or his faith in the manager.

Looking at it from Wise's perspective, there was the chance that his
contract might not get renewed in the summer, Bates could leave, etc, there
are a lot of unknowns between now and the start of next season. If a team 2
divisions above us are willing to pay him treble the salary then he
obviously has some talent that has not gone unnoticed and this type of offer
would be attractive to anyone.
At this moment in time we can't compete either with the salary or the lure
of being part of a premiership club.
I would have accepted had I been in Wise's position, loyality is a great
quality but it doesn't pay the mortgage or make you happy and can sometimes
be mis-guided.

Cheers

Briggsy
