As already pointed out most will have seen the match one way or another so
don't really need my thoughts but will give you a few anyway.
I have been saying week after week that we lack width and a proper shape, and
last night in the absence of Sheehan we paid the price for it. Kilkenny is
never where he is supposed to be and so Frazer, who has enough problems doing
his own job, has no chance when he has to cover for Kilkenny too - for me
Prutts should have been asked to stay wide right.
Putting Johson at left back worked ok on one level but we missed his output
in midfield and were left totally unbalanced.
It was a game in which we were crying out for our better players - Howson and
Freedman to really take a grip but , goal apart, Freedman was subdued and
Johnny H had perhaps his worst game of the season.
At 2-0 we had no chance but we do now have a lifeline - we did create chances
and their keeper played very well.and although they have a good home record,
our away from has also been good recently under Gary Mac so it is all still to
play for.
Gary Mac needs to work out what to do with left back spot and we need Becks
to be fit enough to do the full 90 (too much to ask with only 3 days between
the 2 games ?) He also needs to bring on Seb Carole earlier if things are not
going right.
We are not quite dead yet
Dave
