I knew it was going to be a bad day when I opened my first bottle of Becks to
have with my breakfast on the train to have it pointed out to me that that
bottle, along with the 3 others I had bought was alcohol free !!! I was not
impressed and had a good rant about it much to the delight of my mates and
others in the carriage - I then had to wait 15 mins for the buffet to open to
buy some overpirced warm but at least alcoholic beer !
At Peterboro itself we dodged thru the cafe to escape the massed ranks of plod
and wandered around one of the most depressing places on Gods earth - we did
not even manage to find a pub let alone one that would let us in so we headed
to the ground early to take part in the banter between Leeds fans in seats and
those on terraces - good fun.
Over the course of the afternoon there were good songs about Fergiscum and his
wife beating antics, and about the lack of love we have for his father, plus
songs about chlymedia. The facilites consisted of one toilet with about 3
urinals and a tea bar that looked like it belonged in a hut in the local park -
proper 3rd Division.
On the pitch,as others have said, it was one of those games when we had a lot
of possession with little penetration (Douglas again our mom) and looked very
shaky at the back. Casper replaced Lucas, who was injured in the warm up, and
he was his usual mixture of great saves and almost blunders - he does not fill
anyone with confidence, Rui decided to join him in the panic and almost scored
an own goal as well as an awful back pass to him that Casper had to punch away
whilst lying on the ground - at least I found out that the backpass rule only
applies if the keeper picks it up. We were very nervy at the back with White
having a bit of a torrid time and it was only some desparate scrambling
defesive work that kept it at nil nil.
After the break their winger controlled it with his hand and crossed for them
to score - ref and lino both missed the handball 0 1. We continured in the same
vein with lots of possession with Robinson especially working his socks off,
subs were made but nothing really changed. A long shot by Kilkenny was parried
by the keeper and Becchio at the second attempt bundled it in but lino flagged
for offside.  We contiued to huff and puff but our crossing and set pieces were
poor and their keeper looked very assured and caught everything with ease.
Right at the end another bout of panic in our area led to them putting it in
the net after about 4 attempts had been blocked 0 2 game over.
Leeds fans stayed till the end (over 4.000) of us and lifted the rafters with
"we all love Leeds" as the players waved and trooped off not really earning
that applause.
Overall a disappointing day - we will play worse and win this season but
probably did not deserve anything today.
Peterboro having proved such a poor place to drink pre match meant that we got
off the train at Grantham for a pint or two on the way home - another
depressing place, still I suppose if your only claim to fame is as the
birthplace of Maggie ....
