I forgot to post this in the post losing depression phase.. Did anyone else hear a snippet on the news last night about our erstwhile captain, Rio Duckface, complaining about racist abuse at games - quite right too, it is outrageous and punitive action should indeed be meted out to those who indulge in such abuse. However.....he made the comment below, and I can't help feeling that he hasn't fully thought things through..
"If things like this keep happening you have to take points off them. Then the punters will realise the team is going to be punished." Let me give you a scenario..... Your team is one place off Promotion/relegation/champions league place with no chance of making it in the one game left in the season, no matter what the outcome of the games. Do you think it possible that some fans of the club concerned might consider buying club shirts of the team they could replace and going to this "last" game and racially abusing everyone on the field who is of a differing race? Result? The "offending" team gets a point deduction - the abusers get fined at the most and return home the conquering hero's (to those whom they let in on the secret) I think it highly possible if something the fans control can cost a rival team points, then someone somewhere will do it. I can't argue with Duckface's sentiment, but I can with his suggestion for a punishment. Thoughts?
