Yes.  Like it or not. He is indeed increasing well respected.  In a similar
way that David Beckham became ever more respected.

I live in the Middle East, surrounded by Arabs and Far Easterners, all of
whom live and breathe Premiership and European International football.  Rio
Ferdinand commands tremendous respect.

The commentators from Sky as well as all the ex footballers who pass through
Dubai and feature on ShowSports clearly respect Ferdinand firstly as a
footballer starting to approach Bobby Moore (OK maybe Tony Adams then)
proportions (automatic unquestioned England place, solid quality defender,
cool classy and able to play) second in developing as a leader (was our
captain, has been Fergie's once or twice and is in the frame for England, no
mean CV that and  as well is starting to be an occasional spokesperson off
the pitch)

So, yes, increasingly well respected.  but I thought Ian Harte, David Hopkin
and Terry Yorath added a dimension to our side too!
