Saturday...Hmmm. This was so depressing that I spent the rest of the w/e sanding down the wooden floors of an old Victorian house - including some right bastard bits with shellac around the edges - just to stop myself from having to think about it. It was the first time this season that I realised that there is a very real danger of our not making the play-offs (nevermind an auto spot) if we don't get sorted whatever is wrong with the heads of players. The confidence is shot - the only time we looked equal to Colchester in terms of self-belief was in the short time we were ahead - other than that we were second best.
Its not the ability of most of the players, they are good enough and the squad is big enough, and I believe that the way the manager has the team playing, is in general, the way forward. But everyone's lost it big style for the minute. We have some of the best players, young players in the main, in their positions in this league, so what's going wrong? I can't be arsed with a full-on report, Colchester were worthy winners. That is depressing enough. I don't know what was wrong with Frazer but Hughes is a bad joke of a footballer. Constantly drifting his passes into touch - he did it at Rotherham and other games when he has played RBack. He can't even mark or tackle properly. Useless. Telfer, maybe should have been RBack if Frazer was injured, he certainly shouldn't have been CHalf against two giant forwards - not while Lubo was on the bench. But you know - they get a corner - they're a big team - the ref makes Rui, our other CHalf leave the field to get treatment. The corner is taken and they score - you could see it coming... Then the fellow scores with a belting free kick after Prutton makes such a stupid challenge (and gets himself sent off cos he was already booked for arguing the toss in the first half - not the behaviour of someone that is desperate for their place back in the first XI - and not one Leeds player objected to the dismissal). We spent 40 minutes looking like we didn't know how to score - with the exception of a decent free kick from Sheehan which the keeper had to tip over...but otherwise...zilch. I think that there is a pretty decent case for us having last year's back 5 back in place - Caspar, Frazer, Sheehan, Rui and Lubo - they did alright last year. They can't have bloomin well forgotten it all. Have Douglas as your holding player - then Delph, Howson and Kilkenny (with Metal Mickey to come on with half hour left) Then Beckford plus a.n.other - probably Becchio. If that XI doesn't get you in the play offs then there is something wrong with the manager/coaching staff. LUCAS - entirely unconvincing HUGHES - ridiculously bad SHEEHAN - given what was going on around him, pretty decent game TELFER - enough of the old buddies routine here Gary MARQUES - half decent DOUGLAS - again OK doing his thing, but seeing way to much of the ball for us to be playing well PRUTTON - he's not the messiah he's a very naughty boy KILKENNY - tried but to no avail - seems pretty ill thought of by the crowd DELPH - loads of work and tackling back - but his passing was poor in this one BECCHIO - dreadful - cannot do it without Beckford by his side - has almost zero ball conrol - his "shielding" seems mainly to be running in a semi-circle, like a crab trying to stop anyone getting near the ball SNODGRASS - didn't see the goal - put in some effort ------------- CHRISTIE & SHOWUNMI came on and did nowt ------------- 19,500 - mainly booing people... ------------ Ref - attrocious -------------- A thoroughly sh*te afternoon - brightened only by my mate taking his kids to the game. I asked the eldest daughter (9 years old) what she wants for xmas, she said "I want Leeds to win some matches so Daddy won't always be coming home in a bad mood"...out of the mouths of children. _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
