Jezza knows nothing about football, and indeed has no interest in any type of sport whatsoever. Not even "Rugger", which you might expect. Not even Formula 1. He's probably heard of Brian Clough though, and as you say has probably read a review of the film. He probably had to ask the subs to dress in an appropriate Leeds reference, and the booze-addled hacks remembered the names of Lorimer and Sprake, plus the fact that Leeds were in the cup final in 1970.
