Hmmm I fell for this a few years ago and then realised I'd fallen for the oldest trick in the book. Rod Liddle is precisely the same as Clarkson, they say things to provoke just this sort of reaction. I don't like 'em but kinda admire them for at least generating something remotely approaching debate! Have never bought a book by a 'celeb', I'd have imagined they are all truly truly awful, vacuous, egotistical and untrue ... at a guess!!! Oh, and a slightly out of date statement of contempt. There are NO newspapers on Fleet Street anymore!
