Well the biggest crowd of the season to date were treated to a real day out in
the sun. We scored 3 without reply and our 3 stars of the season (with
apologies to Naylor and Delph) all scored.
Northampton were dreadful and on this showing deserved to get relegated - they
never showed anything to suggest that they were fighting for their lives - we
totally dominated from start to finish and could have won by a bigger margin,
We controlled the first half without really looking like scoring till a nice
cross from Parker found the onrushing Becchio who headed home from close range
- a typical Becchio goal , yes he is not the greatest but he works his wotsits
off and makes up in bravery and being in the right place for what he lacks in
skill and ability. He had a big dip in form midway through the season but give
the lad some credit m he has come to a foreign country and a different style of
football and been a revelation - he has formed a great partnership with
Beckford scoring over 50 goals this season between them and he does the 'hard
yards' making Beckfords job easier. Can he do it at a higher level ? I am not
sure , but thank you Gary Mac for finding this gem.
Second half we won at a canter - a lovely ball from Howson ( I was screaming
for him to pass to the unmarked Robbo) found Becks and he finished with style
into the bottom corner. If this was not proof that Howson played the right ball
another through ball to the unmarked Robbo which he ballooned over was.
Then with minutes to go another cross came in to the far post and Snoddy
changed feet in mid air and volleyed home - a classic - and another thank you
to Macca for finding him.
There followed a (premature ?) lap of honour and off we all went home to dream
about the play offs and a Wembley victory
Dave
nice to see the club getting it right with a loyalty scheme for the away leg,
even though it means that I will probably miss out* on a Millwall ticket - the
lads who have been to 20 games deserve first go at these tickets rather than
those who have not been to an away game since Carlisle last play off !!
*that IS a hint for anyone who finds themselves with a ticket and cannot go !!!
