I think the higher placed league team should progress if scores are level after the two legs no penalties.
Its sort of fairer on the likes of Bury who missed promotion by a goal then lost on penalties to Shrewsbury who were miles behind them in the league. Otherwise there isn't a benefit to finishing higher other than home advantage for the second leg which isn't that great if you are a team like Bury -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Joe Skinner Sent: 12 May 2009 13:14 To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: [LU] Leedslist Digest, Vol 32, Issue 13 The dangers of replying before reading the rest of the digest - I think KLKOT said it better than I attempted. The home team has already had 90 mins to score an away goal. The advantage of the away team having an 'extra' 30 mins to score an away goal is negated by them being, by definition, away. The home team have the benefit of being at home and all that entails. Saying that, I agree with whoever it was (probably KLKOT) who said it is 'better/fairer' for them only to come into play after ET. As with most changes brought in to make play more attacking (back pass, golden goal, silver goal, away goals, offside law changes, 3points for a win, penalty shoot outs, Man Utd's Faustian pact etc. etc.) negative teams find a way past them and they become anacronistic. (Think about it!!) 2009/5/12 Joe Skinner <[email protected]> >>>No they don't - it was deemed that advantage would be given to the away side in the second leg in the event of a tie after 180 mins, since they would have 30 mins extra to score an away goal.<<< That doesn't make any sense, the home team also has 30 mins longer, at home, to score a goal. _________________________________________________________________ Beyond Hotmail - see what else you can do with Windows Live. http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/134665375/direct/01/ _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
