Disagree - very realistic assessment of the situation Tim.

Could be, or he could easily be a like-for-like replacement for Gareth Barry.

In which case 6m rising to 7.5 m is superb business - can you name a player
from the 3rd tier who's been sold for anything like that sum ?

If Bates pockets the money that's a scandal and we should get rid of him -
assuming it gets reinvested we can buy 3/4 quality players at League level to
replace a bloke who had lots of potential, but then so did Woods and Taiwo and
where are they now ?
I'm well happy that Chelsea took them off our hands for 5m the pair.

Where he lives is far less important than where he works - as you said, you
lived in Brum and without knowing why you went there it strikes me that Delph
has got as least as good a reason for upping sticks to the West Midlands as you
did.
He won't be living in Digbeth on his wage either - leafy Warwickshire for him
no doubt.

The reality is that if you offered the vast majority of people a massive wage
increase they'd be off like a shot.

It's no good harping on about what crowds they got in 1986 - this is the 21st
century and football is different now.

Villa are knocking on the door of the top 4 and are miles bigger than the yoyo
club at St Andrews.
