Will keep it brief cos I am off to Remembrance Parade being a 'poppy facist' !!!
Instead of a minutes silence they played the bugle whilst the fans were
supposed to be quiet. There was certainly some singing by Leeds fans but not
sure if they were in the ground or on the concourse - I was right in the right
hand corner and the singing came from the left side to the back. Not good
either way really.
Anyway on to the match. Grasyon decided that with Vokes, Becchio and Kandol all
missing neither of the other strikers were up to the job and brought in
Kilkenny in a 5 man midfield. This left Beckford on his own up front and he was
basically starved of the ball all game. Having said that we won and won at a
canter and so I suppose you could say it worked.
Chances were very much at a premium - they had a good one early on but the lad
mis controlled the ball with his first touch and Casper smothered it at his
feet. Late on in the game a long rasping shot was tipped round the post by
Casper, apart from one cross when he got in a mix up with Naylor that was about
the sum total of Caspers day.
We were not much better chance wise, a couple of long shots from Johnson and
Doyle, a chip from Beckford that went over and the 2 goals was our
contribution. The first Snoddy played a ball across the edge of their area and
Howson hammered it home - more of that please Johnny.
We then pretty much controlled a dire, boring game and never looked like
conceding, then much to my amazement and dismay, when the board went up for 4
extra minutes we took off Hughes and brought on White. Now, like many I want to
see White get a run in the team but taking a full back off in the dying minutes
can only lead to trouble can't it ?
What the f*** do I know - within seconds a through ball found White rampaging
down the left wing and his pin point ball into the area found an unmarked
Grella who took a couple of touches and waited for the keeper to go to ground
and then hit it over him into the net and that was that. We had almost half the
crowd of 5,500 and enjoyed oursleves with an extended waccoe whilst their fans
seemed to sleep throughout.
We looked good when we passed and moved - Kilkenny was probably my mom - and
solid enough the rest of the time. Like I said before both managers will claim
this result will have no bearing in a couple of weeks time but, for me, if that
was their proper team we should secure another 3 points.
And so to Tuesday and another Cup game - I expect a different line up and
different starting XI
Dave
