If winning whilst playing shite is the mark of a title-winning side then we're home and hosed because last night we were truly awful. Some credit must be given to Orient, who, when they hadn't got the ball, ran and chased and close down as if their lives depended on it. We struggled to deal with that. When they had the ball they moved it quickly and neatly and we struggled to cope with that as well, particularly down the right where Bromby, given no help at all by the nominal right-sided mid-fielder Howson, had an absolute mare. I say nominal right-side mid-fielder because he spent precious little time there, drifting into the middle time and time again, robbing us of most of our width.
A friend who went to Brighton said that the mid-field set up worked very well there, but it certainly didn't last night. When Johnson's fit again, Grayson is going to have to bite the bullet and decide on which two out of Doyle, Howson and Kilkenny is to be his central mid-field pairing. As most of what little creativity we showed before Gradel came on, came from Killkenny, he should be one of them. Once Gradel came on things did change, and we were much the better team after that but it still didn't look as if we'd score until a wonderful bit of magic inside the box got him the space to thump an unstoppable shot past their keeper. I think it was only the second meaningful shot on target that we managed all night and Gradel provided the other one too. Still the juggernaut rolls on, twelve points clear of third place with a game in hand, unbeaten at home since January. It's great to be a Leeds fan at the moment. _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
