I would say just the opposite. I think it has been doctored to avoid it looking
like it might have been pointed at Beckford. A sensible adjustment on the PR
front. (Mr Dews maybe ?)

I don't disagree with the rest of your comments though. Whatever his faults,
and there are plenty, we need him on the team and performing the best he can
for the rest of the season.
We also need fans to get FULLY behind whoever pulls on the shirt, no matter
what their limitations or style of play might be.
He won't be the first footballer who wouldn't be a best mate off the field and
isn't the only one with his brains in his boots or worse. None of that really
matters in football, at least not on the pitch.
His job is to score goals for the team and pretty much everything else is
secondary- so long as he scores the goals that is.
This club certainly does not need the money for selling him at this time and
the case for adding quality to the squad (and that is likely to mean spending
some significant money) is very strong. Having a squad that is likely to get
automatic promotion is not really good enough any more. The money generated by
the fans etc means nothing unless it is translated into the playing squad. That
is the only place that it provides an advantage - where the fans want that
advantage to be. Spending stupid money and stupid actions/gambles are not
necessary at this level but Leeds should have enough clout as a club to be able
to dominate this third division, especially having been down here too long
already. We can afford to keep Beckford AND to buy another prolific striker -
and as you say maybe another keeper (and how about a veteran midfield enforcer
or playmaker).
