Yes, I agree with that. (It was actually me who made the original point!) But
in addition to that I believe there is a lot of luck in getting to play other
teams at good or bad times. Take Colchetser, who got to go to Norwich on the
1st day of the season, compared to us, who have to visit them at the end of
March. Colchester found them in such disarray after relegation that they won
7-1................we will find them riding high on a long run of good results,
and may only win 4 or 5-1!
Tranmere are another example............any team who got to go there in the
first few weeks when Barnes was in charge were guaranteed 3 pts, whereas we
have to visit them next month after they have made a relative recovery and will
be thinking they might just survive.
I think someone else summed up what's happening here perfectly a few weeks
ago. Our Cup run has re-invigorated that "Cup Final" mentality for a lot
of League 1 clubs. Which, early season, had worn a bit thin after two
previous seasons (for most). Uddersfield are ALWAYS going to raise their
game for their games with us ("Sophisticated? Don't give me sophisticated,
I've BEEN to Leeds") and Swindon not only have found their feet with Danny
Wilson in charge, but play us just after we've done for Man U and held
Spurs, Hence they fill their ground for the ONLY time this season!!!!
