There are a couple of things to bear in mind here, UEFA want the PL to reduce in size to 18 clubs to bring them in line with most other European Leagues, but that's not going to happen, is it? The Football League have always said that if a club folds during the season, then they won't be replaced. The long-term ambition of the FL is to reduce the numbers of clubs in their Leagues by two. What's likely to happen is Portsmouth will go bust, with relegation and promotion continues (but with one less team being relegated from the PL) until the bottom Division (League Two) ends up one team short (an extra team won't come into the FL from the Conference, nor will one less club fall through the relegation trap-door. And if Portsmouth are reformed, where will they end up? Right at the bottom of the non-League pyramid? The Conference have an agreement whereby they have to accept whatever club are relegated from the FL, no matter what basket cases they get (Chester City), but I don't think this would apply to a club expelled from the PL. _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
