I agree with Sean.

I saw my GP around the 10th March about an old snowboarding injury that was playing up and asked to see a specialist privately, I only saw the GP 'cos it makes life easier for the health insurance. He banged out a fax to the specialist and bob's yer uncle within a 9 day period I had had 2 consultations and was on the operating theatre table (could have been sooner but I was busy). All this for a few quid every month.

The downside. It was a scapho-lunate ligament reconstruction on my right hand (am right handed) using a tendon from my index finger, painful as f**k, am still in plaster 6 weeks later, no driving, no lifting, no going to the football, no nowt!!!!
