The closest game I can think of to Saturday's game is the Leeds V Leicester
game in 1990.
* We needed to win (chance to win promotion that day if Newcastle lost)
* Big home crowd
* Opposition nowt to play for (Leicester's away record was W5 D6 :L12 F33
A50)
Just hope it is not as tense as that day.
We scraped a win at the death. Rumour spread at the end that we had done it
as NUFC had lost! They hadn't. Then off to Bmth the next week for a wrecking
spree and 3 points.

Ah but don't forget we did WIN a cup final - the Whyte and Mackay Trophy v
Hibs in 2004 with goals from Michael Ricketts (2) and Frazer Richardson.
Mind you the Scotch (sic) police did not allow the team to pick up the
trophy until all the fans had left the stadium !!
By my reckoning it is the most important home game since 1987 play off
final second leg v Charlton where a 2 0 win (instead of 1-0) would have
put us back in the top flight.
Whilst we have had games that have been bigger in a way (European games,
home games on the way to the title in 92 etc) none of them have actually
counted for anything in themselves - just a chance to play another game.
This one gets us promotion.
Both our promotion of 89 and title in 92 were won away from home as was
the 74 title so this may be the first time in my football going lifetime
that we have actually achieved something tangible at Elland Road !
Dave
Does that include the Makita tournament of 1992, when we lost to Sampdoria
in the final at Elland Road.?
