Puccini? Turandot - check out Franco Corelli as Calaf on EMI. Butterfly - Renata Scotto is the most moving I have heard. Tosca - Callas is queen here, although Angela Georghiu runs her close. La Rondine is a gem, especially the EMI recording under Pappano. Suor Angelica comes to a breathtaking climax. Play LOUD.
Wagner is amazing, but he's daunting. Die Fliegende Hollander is a good introduction - lots of rousing sailors' choruses. Save it 'til your ticker recovers a bit first! Best, Nigel.
