I have to say I am already pretty concerned at our preparations for coming
season. Our manager says the players were delivered a wake-up call after the
Bury result/performance. I think the Manager and the Chairman were delivered a
wake-up call which they appear to be ignoring. The squad is not good enough.

Lets look at a few facts. The Leeds team that completed the 2009/10 season
hobbled over the winning line and had been out of sorts since last January. On
form we were a lower league side and we had been easily beaten by most of our
promotion challengers. Has that squad been improved significantly with new and
better players being brought in? The short answer is no.

Our bargain basement strategy continues and none of the players we have brought
in are much better than what we already have. Our 3 most pressing areas for
improvement are centre of defence, central midfield and a striker. Neither
Collins or Paynter inspire me. Collins did not impress me last year and
Paynter's previous would suggest he will struggle in the Championship. The
others are a mix of players who werent wanted by the likes of Charlton & Derby
in which case why would we want them.

Grayshon may have something up his sleeve but is he really banking on Somma
replacing Beckford - that is a big gamble. I am very disappointed to see us
losing out (apparently) on Hooper to the barcodes. This lad was certainly worth
a punt of £2.5m but yet again, Bates refuses to put his hand in his pocket.
Championship strikers are going to be wetting themselves at the prospect of
playing against Collins, Naylor &/or Bromby.

I want to see Bates invest the extra income he has got in season tickets, money
paid before we knew what division we would be in, on some quality players. As
things stand, and I don't enjoy saying this, we will struggle next season.

If Grayshon goes on a spending spree in next few weeks and gers some quality in
I will of course be happy to retract all this. I doubt it though.
