Hi all,

As you know, the Indonesian economy is currently heavily subsidized
(temporarily; kill now, pay later) through the IMF & World Bank. Whilst
Indonesia, as an authoritarian (and thus more "stable") regime, has been a
favoured loan recipient since the mid-70s, the amount of funds channelled
through these institutions has increased quite sharply during the last
couple of years of the "Asian economic crisis" in a bid to provide a stable
economic environment for the (90% Western) transnationals. Indonesia has
requested a combined total of $US71 billion this year for various projects,
and the WB & IMF, whilst expressing "grave concern" at the situation in
East Timor, have signalled that they have no intention of witholding or
restricting funding.
