The Natural Heritage Trust is billed by the Federal Government as the greatest environmental rescue package ever. Funded by some of the money from the partial sale of Telstra, the Natural Heritage Trust - or NHT - supports some 18 programs, including Bushcare and National Landcare, and has a budget of $1.5 billion dollars for the period of 1996 to 2002.=20 The Federal Government's funding allocation to the Natural Heritage Trust in its latest budget was down nearly 15% from last year's. Many people criticised this, while others were more concerned about the fundamental problem of just what the NHT money is being spent on. Today we speak with Australian Conservation Foundation's Biodiversity Campaign Coordinator, Charlie Sherwin.=20 IN: "As I understand it =85" OUT: "=85 I think not." The Project developer is a partnership of two ethical investment companies, and work is set to start in the second of this year with a view to being finished by July 2001. Earth Matters met up with Project Officer for the building Alistair Mailer, at the site.=20 IN: "Well as you can see =85" OUT: " =85 we've used here."
