Medical Association for the Prevention of War and Federation of Community Legal Centres are organising a media stunt/ action on the afternoon of Sunday, December 22 and we need your help. we need as many people as possible to volunteer to lie in body bags in front of the British Consulate-General Offices and the Commonwealth Offices. 1pm, Sunday, December 22, British Consulate-General Offices 90 Collins St Melbourne followed by the Commonwealth Offices, 4 Treasury Place. If possible bring two black garbage bags (we can supply some if you are not able to) Multix 240 litre liners are ideal. for some pictures of how the action will look check out http://www.mapw.org.au/states/australiancapitalterritory/act-index.html#body We will have info boards showing the numbers of deaths in 1991 and the estimated numbers of people that will be killed in an attack on Iraq. "Credible estimates of the total possible deaths on all sides during the conflict and the following three months range from 48,000 to over 260,000. Civil war within Iraq could add another 20,000 deaths. Additional later deaths from post-war adverse health effects could reach 200,000. If nuclear weapons were used the death toll could reach 3,900,000. In all scenarios the majority of casualties will be civilians."
