I see we posted at the same time. There was a great example of turning long parts in short machines recently. Follow this link. http://tinyurl.com/4h7ayto
You won't have a problem with flipping the piece and joining the rope from what I understand from the past conversations. If it is a problem, it's very easy to fix. All you would have to do is align the bit in the groove and loosen the shaft collar that holds the screw and rotate it till it is in the right place. You can also loosen the gears and rotate the screw to the right place and re-engage the teeth. So what bit are you planning to use with the 12" pitch and how many starts are you thinking now? -Tim ----- Original Message ----- From: "mike" <[email protected]> To: "Legacy Ornamental Mills" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 23, 2011 7:19 PM Subject: Re: Rope column Hi, Thanks for the advice, I just ordered the 2x gear set today so I will do a 12" pitch, Now I have to decide how to make a 8 foot column on my 6 foot legacy I was either going to extend the tailstock 2 feet and turn 6 feet of the column then flip it over and do the other 2 feet or make 2 pieces and conect them with threaded rod. has anyone done a long column like this before? I'm not sure how well the rope molding will line up when the colun is turned over to rope the last 2 feet.
