Tim, Curt and I were playing with this idea when I was visiting a couple weeks ago. Yes the other two wires are for an electric brake. It is a power on brake so no power is needed to bypass the braking effect. We tested the motor with 12V so if Curt is running it with 24V it is a good thing he is using the larger gear. It is a smooth running little motor and I figure it the hard rubber wheel starts to wear, Curt can slide it to new rubber with the way it is mounted. Good Job Curtis!

Hello everyone.
Tim Thank you for posting these pictures for me.

I have no idea on what the two small white wires are for? But I will figure it out. ;-) Like you pointed out, I am planing to make this motor variable speed as well as I am also planning to put a directional switch one this motor set up. Tim I have a 24 volt battery charger that I am using to run this motor. If you look at the pictures you will see that the board the the motor is mounted to is on a pivot point. this pivot make is very easy to adjust the tenchen between the motor and the indexing gear, all that I have to do is loosen one side of the mounting and tighten up the other side. this adjustment not only makes it easy to get the right preasure on the wheel, but also is alows me to use other indexing gears if needed. the .25 gear set indexing gear fits as well as the standard. (If I want to use the X2 set, all that I need to do is loosen the bracket that holds the motor and I can use that gear as well.) (Please dont ask me why I might need to do all that? I dont know at this min. but Its nice to have the ability if the need may arise.) :-)

Like I said earler, by having two motors, I can control the movement of the carrage as well as the speed of the spindle to get the best finish on a round turning. things like template turning now can be done easer with more control over the carrage and spindle. ... This just might open up a hole world of possibilitys that I could not have done before with out it.
We will see? ;-)

Have a great day everyone.

Curt wanted me to pass on the photos. For now it's a single speed, single direction 24v dc gear motor. Looking at the photo, I'm wondering what the extra pair of wire coming out is for. It might be a brake. Are you running this off of a dc power supply or just some batteries?

I will try my best. The motor realy is not that much to look at.
I have a side job pending, I am planning to use this motor to help
with this job. My HOPES were to take pictures as Im working so you
can see the cutting. I will see about sending you a picture of
the motor as it sits now. Perhaps tomorrow. (after work.)
    Im dead tired now.
I will be going to bed in a few min.

    talk to you and everyone.
    Tomorrow.

    Have a good night.

Are there going to be picture involved at some point? You know
many of us are actually illiterate and can only read pictures :-).

        Hello everyone.

I am sorry to say that I still am having computer problems at
home, So I do not have the ability to use many of the features
that I normaly use on my computer. Things like Spell check.
and posting pictures to this group. Hopefully I will be able
to get this problem resolved soon?

Anyhow onto the topic at hand.

This is an old idea from Legacy, but not one that thay sold
for long, since I know of only one Wood chuck unit that had
this modification, and I know that thay again tried using this
mod. again on that 2200 model units that were quickly
        discontinied.

        OK!

So you ask what is this modification? It is my newest
project/toy that Ive been playing around with. A seperate
motor for the spindle its self. Not the drive but the spindle
its self. by useing a motor to spin the turning, and the motor
drive together you can get a supper smooth clean cut on any
spindle. Now Im talking about turning a round spindle turning
only, No ropeing or anything fancy just a round stright dowell
with a clean and smooth surface.

Now this is not be the End-All,Be-All, Legacy modification but
        I like it!

This is what was done, On the Wood chuck (my friends Kevin's
unit) It has a second motor with a swivel and a mating gear on
it. all you needed to do is loosen the locking screw and have
the gear touch the Wood Chuck's indexing gear.

On the modle 2200 Legacy used a drive belt.

And on my unit, I used a 24 volt motor from a wheel chair,
that has a rubber drive wheel, What I did was to mount a board
onto my rails, and make the wheel engauge the indexing gear to
make this mod. work for me.

        I have to go!

        talk to you all latter.

        C.A.G.
