OK guys here's a crazy idea
make a 12 foot or however long mill with 2inch square steel tubing rails which you can get easy and have them supported to eliminate sagging. and place your new long mill at the end of your 900 get a long piece of something say plastic water pipe like 8 or 10 inch dia to stop any twisting mount it in the legacy and have it connected to the headstock of the 900 and at the other end the headstock of your new mill like a tail shaft of a car, and also connect the 2 saddles together the saddle of the legacy and the saddle of your long mill with another piece of square steel tubing . then you can use your 900 to make spirals on your long mill just move the saddle back each time and reclamp the tubing and you can make as long a column as you like.

a crazy idea yes but I get lots of those this is what I will do if I want to make really long larger than the 900 will do columns

Hello Begat
before you totally take apart your 900 to make these columns, Are you sure
that's what you want to do?
If you are looking to make only a few columns there are easer ways to get
the job done with out dismantling your machine.
Mike Pung made a monster mill just a few years ago, and posted it on this
forum, He used Uni-strut for the rails some plywood for his carriage.with
some other homemade parts ,to get this job done.

I have to run.
please look it up in the archives. this may be a better way for you too?
good luck.

Hello All,

Followed up on the posting on the threaded rod that Tim made yesterday
and found that standard sizes for the lead screws that the company
makes are six and twelve feet and that the price would be in the
neighborhood of $5.00 per foot!!

It dawns on me that there would be limitations in using two 900 frame
for making the 12 footer. The inner two legs would limit the swing
diameter to 9", forming the maximum size diameter of the columns.

I'm sure there would be other issues that you all will point out to
me, especially the need for special brackets.
