Hello Brigette welcome also I would love to go out and buy a cnc mill but I'm afraid its out of my reach at this time it took me forever to save for the manual machine I am just a poor single dad of 4 so it will be many years before I could go out and get a cnc but one things for sure its sure is fun trying to make the manual machines do the same stuff as the cncs do
and as the other guys said take lots of pictures good to have for your own records as well as posting for us all I keep any picture posted or I can find anywhere that helps remember how to do a job or technique on the legacy. and what ever question basic or complicated there is always somebody on this group to help all any one has to do is ask Bill ----- Original Message ----- From: Brigitte Graham To: legacy-ornamental-mills@googlegroups.com Sent: Friday, December 30, 2011 10:12 AM Subject: Re: Just playing around Hey Guy's , Why don't you just go out and get a CNC machine!!! I have been following these conversations between you, and as far as I can see, you all want the specialties that come bigger/better with a CNC machine out of your humble Legacy, with out forking out for the computerized bit! Having said that, we are just novice learners on a 1200 model, (from sunny! Devon, in the UK) which I get to when I can. The learning curve is steep and needs crampons and ice picks just to get started. The tips I have been picking up from the 'community' are a great help, and more diverse than the DVD supplied with the machine. I shall watch to see who comes up first with some intricate moldings made using a front following template on a sturdy non flexing 16' machine, with the extra gearing! Please keep up the 'back to basics stuff'! One pass cutting from the side. I'm pretty happy with it. I know that there is a lot more work that needs to be done.I'm going to make a ball bearing follower next, But this is just the first step, this follower has fine adjustment abilities. I think that this concept has a lot of value to My legacy abilities. following a template from the front of the machine is much easer than from the back side of the machine. I used my new spindle motor to turn the spindle. The Legacy drive motor moved the carriage. all that I needed to do was make sure the follower and the template were touching as it moved along the surface. By the way this template was a 30. sec. bandsaw cut out. Please let me know what you all think?
