The cost is real enough, and I imagine the lead screw will have a
similar additional cost.

Despite the additional shipping cost, remember the baseline is:

$1,400 for a 900.
$1,500 for additional parts and shipping
3K for a 9 foot machine.  That's less than the price of a model 1200.
